[OPIRG-EVENTS] Ottawa AirShow's 31 Warplanes incl nuclear, napalm, cluster, DU weapons
Ottawa Air Show will be Dominated by Warplanes
Of the 32 different types of aircraft expected to perform at the National
Capital Air Show next weekend, only one (the CL-415 waterbomber) is of
civilian origin. Military aircraft will therefore comprise about 97% of
the expected aircraft. This is higher than the average for Canadian air
shows. Of the 384 different types aircraft known to have "performed" at 29
Canadian air shows, 324 were of military origin, i.e., about 84%.
(Note: A complete list of the aircraft expected at the upcoming Ottawa air
show is included at the end of this email.)
(A) COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN
Of the 31 different types of military aircraft that Ottawa air show
organizers expect to entertain the public on the Fathers' Day weekend, 20
are of U.S. origin. About twice as many different types of US warplanes
are expected than from other countries combined:
Country Number of Percentage
of Origin Military aircraft of total
U.S. 20 64.5%
Canada 7 22.6%
Germany 3 9.7%
UK 1 3.2%
Total 31
(Note: This data on the aircraft expected to attend the Ottawa show this
year was obtained from the official web site of the National Capital Air
Show. http://ottawa-airshow.ca/2002/perform.htm)
(B) Weapons Delivery Systems:
NUCLEAR BOMBS, NAPALM, CLUSTER BOMBS, DEPLETED URANIUM MUNITIONS
Among the many types of weapons "delivered" by the types of military
aircraft scheduled to perform in Ottawa next weekend are the following:
(1) NUCLEAR WEAPONS:
B-1B Lancer (US)
EA-6B Prowler / Intruder (US)
F-15 Eagle (US)
F-15E Strike Eagle (US)
F-16 Fighting Falcon (US)

(4) DEPLETE URANIUM MUNITIONS:
A-10A Thunderbolt II (US)
(Note: The above data on the kinds of munitions "delivered" by these
weapons systems was obtained from dozens of military web sites. The
National Capital Air Show web site does not contain information on the
variety of munitions delivered by the warplane "performers" that they bring
to Ottawa.)
(C) WARS, INVASIONS, MILITARY OPERATIONS
(Sorted chronologically):
Besides entertaining at air shows, the same types of military aircraft
slated to visit Ottawa next weekend have also "performed" military roles in
a wide variety of wars, invasions, interventions and other
operations. Some of these military operations, such as the aerial
bombardments of Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, led to the deaths of
literally millions of innocent civilians.
(Note: The following information was not obtained from "National Capital
Air Show" web site. Very little, if any, data on the known combat record
of aircraft can be found on the official web sites of Canadian air
shows. To obtain the following data on aircraft combat records, hundreds
of military-related web sites were consulted).
