[OPIRG-EVENTS] Political Repression Course

04:392* Topics in Interdisciplinary Inquiry: Political Repression
Carleton University
Fall Term - 2002

This third-year course will examine causes of repression, methods
employed (political imprisonment, torture, disappearances,
extrajudicial killing, pacification programs, surveillance of citizens,
suppression of the rights of expression and association), impact on
survivors, and various strategies designed to overcome the legacies
of repression.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings (6:00 - 9:00), and will
emphasize discussion rather than lectures, with guest speakers
and videos utilized to bring voices of direct experience to the course.

04.392* also provides a good foundation for 04.441* A Seminar in
United States Studies: The United States and Political Repression.
This will be offered in the winter term of 2003 on Tuesdays and
Thursdays (11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.).

For more information please contact the course instructor, Bill
Skidmore, in 2215 Dunton Tower; or 520-2600, ext. 2359; or
