[OPIRG-EVENTS] MARCH: Sat NOWAR/PAIX reminder

This is a reminder about tomorrow's NOWAR/PAIX march.
As always the march starts at 12:00pm at the corner of
York and Sussex.

Again - the march will be focused on Iraq.
Specifically - a call for Canada to reject a new war
on Iraq, to take a moral stand on the on-going
bombardment of Iraq and the horrible economic
sanctions that have been called ridiculous and
punitive by two consecutive heads of the UN ‘food for
oil’ program. Both quite the job in protest and
believe the UN is being used as a tool by the UK and
US governments to the ends of inflicting death on
Iraqi citizens and culture. Now they want to intensify
this destruction and murder directly by escalating the
bombing.

As always at the marches, we will update each other
with announcements and campaigns so if you have
anything to announce – please bring the details with
you.

WHO IS NOWAR/PAIX?

In response to the horrific events of September 11,
the resulting declarations of war by the U.S.
government and its military allies, the attack on
civil liberties and the right to dissent, and the ugly
racist and xenophobic attacks on innocent people of
colour across North America, a group of concerned
Ottawa-area citizens has recently formed the Network
to Oppose War and Racism/ Pacte contre l’agression,
l’intolérance et la xénophobie, (NOWAR/PAIX).

This network has three goals:
1) to oppose terrorism in all its forms, the U.S. call
to war, and Canada's participation therein;
2) to oppose racism and the racist backlash against
people of colour, including attacks on immigrant and
refugee rights;
3) to oppose the erosion of civil liberties in the
name of national security.

Our network, which is made up of a diversity of
members from within the community, seeks to build a
broad-based coalition of organizations and individuals
within the Ottawa region to advance the above goals by
organizing events and increasing public awareness in
the coming weeks and months.
