[OPIRG-EVENTS] GDO meeting - January 7, 2003 at 7:30pm

Global Democracy Ottawa invites you to an "ideas" meeting
Tuesday, January 7, 2003 @7:30pm
St. Paul University, Ottawa, Room 103

Help build resistance and alternatives to "free" trade and globalised
plunder and abuse!

In April 2001, nearly 2000 people from the Ottawa-Gatineau area
travelled to Quebec City to show their opposition to the proposed
Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). In October, 2002, the trade
ministers met in Quito, Ecuador bringing this trade deal one step
closer to being imposed on the peoples of the Americas.

The trade ministers and their corporate masters are continuing their
quest to free capital from the restraints of environmental, labour,
or human rights protection. The sooner all aspects of life are
subject to "the market" the happier they will be. The FTAA, along
with the World Trade Organisation and the accelerated militarisation
of the so-called "War on Terror", are the chief weapons they have
chosen.

We claim the right to a clean environment, the right to organise, and
the right to dissent, on our own behalf and in solidarity with others
across the hemisphere and around the world. We must continue to
create better ways to live together, and to make a living.

The fight against the FTAA must continue. On January 7, Global
Democracy Ottawa will be holding a meeting for all those interested
in resuming the struggle against this trade deal. The meeting will
focus on formulating a stategy for local resistance against the FTAA.

It didn't start in Quebec City and it didn't end in Quito!
The struggle continues...
