[OPIRG-EVENTS] Movie this week-end - Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony

This week-end the Bytown has a movie that looks
excellent –

Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony

"When Lee Hirsch set out to direct Amandla! A
Revolution in Four-Part Harmony -- the film about the
anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa -- he didn't
focus on politicians, activists, or martyrs, but
rather on music, specifically on the freedom songs
that fueled this unstoppable popular movement. The
resulting film, produced by Sherry Simpson, traces the
lives of songs through meetings, rallies, guerilla
camps, funerals, church services, marches, and
demonstrations during the dark decades of apartheid,
and through the memories of those who survived the
struggle. The film includes songs recorded and
performed by leading artists including Miriam Makeba,
Hugh Masekela, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Vusi Mahlasela.
Amandla! both the film and the soundtrack, vividly
demonstrates that freedom songs were first and
foremost peoples' songs"

I thought since Mich's workshop at the
Ottawa-Outaouais Social Forum on resistance through
music was so popular, because you all deserve a to go
to a movie, because it looks so damn good, and
because it also looks like it has something to say
…..but really more because it looks so damn good and
you all deserve to go to a movie and I hope you are
able to go.

Take care all - Angela Pinchero
