On May 29th, 2003, 10 non-status Algerians and 2
supporters occupied then waiting room of Immigration
Minister Denis Coderre's Ottawa Office. They demanded
a face-to-face meeting with the Minister and a just
solution for individuals facing deportation to Algeria
because they are excluded from the regularization
process put into place by Canada and Quebec
Immigration. 
 After 8 hours, Ottawa Police Services and the RCMP
arrested all twelve people after brutally attacking
them with Taser guns and beating them. 
 Several people were badly injured with electricity
burns & bruises. One man's head was gashed with the
butt of a Taser gun. They were charged with mischief
over $5000. 
 The police attack is an example of the state's effort
to criminalize non-status people who have organized
against the injustice of the Canadian immigration
system. With charges pending against them, the 10
non-status men risk being excluded from Canada-Quebec
Joint Procedure for the regularization of non-status
Algerians. 
 On Friday, July 11th the defendants will be making a
first court appearance in courtroom #5 at the Elgin
Street Court House at 8:30 AM.

bring supporters to the rally and will return to
Montreal on Friday evening before 8 PM. You are asked
to contribute $5 - $10 to help cover the cost of the
bus, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

 Venez dire à la couronne d'abandonner les accusations
contre les accusés du 29 mai!
 Venez appuyer l'appel pour une enquête publique sur
la violence des actions menées par la police d'Ottawa
et la GRC.

Apportez vos bannières, pancartes et de quoi faire du
bruit!

Le 29 mai 2003, 10 Algériens sans statut et 2 de leurs
sympathisantes occupaient la salle d'attente de
ministre de l'immigration, Denis Coderre, à Ottawa.
Ils demandaient une rencontre en face à face avec le
ministe pour trouver une solution juste pour les
personnes exclues du processus de régularisation mis
en place par Immigration Canada et le gouvernement du
Québec.
 Après 8 heures d'attente, le service de police
d'Ottawa et la GRC ont arrêté les 12 personnes
brutalement à l'aide de pistolets électriques 
et en les battant. Plusieurs personnes ont été
sérieusement blessées: brulures dues aux pistolets
électriques, hématomes. Un occupant du bureau a été
frappé à la tête avec la crosse d'un de ces pistolets
électriques et coupé à la tete. 
 Ils font maintenant face à des accusations de méfait 
de plus de 5 000$.
 L'attaque de la police est un exemple de la volonté
de l'État de criminaliser les personnes sans statut
qui s'organisent contre les injustices du système
d'Immigration canadien. Avec ces accusations pendantes
contre eux, les 10 Algériens risquent de se retrouver
exclus de la procédure conjointe Canada/Québec pour la
régularisation des sans statut algériens.
 Ce vendredi 11 juillet, les accusés comparaitront en
cour, à la salle salle #5 du palais de justice
d'Ottawa sur la rue Elgin à 8 h30.
 Organisé par le Comité d'action des sans statut, le
Comité anti-ZLEA de l'Outaouais (CAZO), Legal Support
Ottawa, la Campagne Personne n'est illégal de Montréal
et le Groupe d’enquête, d’assistance et d’action
directe d’Ottawa (DACO).

retour prévu avant 20h. Il vous sera demandé une
contribution de 5 à 10$ afin d'aider à payer les frais
de location du bus, mais personne ne sera refusé parce
qu'il n'a pas les moyens.
