Professor C. James (Jim) Richardson passed away peacefully on October 12, 2003 in hospital in Halifax, at the age of 62. He was surrounded by his wife and children.

Jim was born in Calgary on March 4, 1941. He is survived by his mother, Rose Richardson, his wife Jennie Hornosty and former-wife Rona Bloomfield, and his children: Michael (Meaghan), Rebecca (Phil), Jason Hornosty and Justin Hornosty, and siblings: Lynn (Jay), Dorothy (Teddy), Ron (Heidi), Geoff (Penny), Penelope, Cindy (Ben), and 14 nieces and nephews.

Jim was an involved and enthusiastic father who always encouraged his children in everything they did. Jim served on the Parent-School Advisory Committee and the local CISV chapter. He was a well-liked teacher.

Jim was an active academic citizen at the University of New Brunswick, as well as nationally. He served as Chair of his department and as President of the of the Canadian Sociology and Anthropology Association. In recognition of his distinguished career of scholarly work, the CSAA awarded Jim its Outstanding Contribution Award in 2000.

Visitation will take place 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St. in Fredericton. A Memorial Service is planned for November and will be announced once arrangements are known.
