I think that's overstating the case.  It may be true that most *new* LANs
are largely switched, but there are still a huge number of non-switched
LANs in service, especially small ones.  Only recently have switch prices
fallen to the point that they are interesting even to people without major
security or performance concerns.  Plain old shared 10Mbit/s Ethernet is
good enough to keep an awful lot of people happy.
