LAHORE : The water level in the rivers is decreasing and it is feared that
the water level will go down by 20 percent in the first week of July. A
spokesman of the Punjab Irrigation Department has stated that in order to
cope with the likely situation, the Irrigation Department has devised a
comprehensive strategy under which adequate water supply would be made
available to the paddy growing areas, while cotton areas may get 25 percent
less than the required water.
The spokesman said that the Punjab Irrigation Department is supplying
adequate water to the canals irrigating the paddy and cotton growing areas.
He further stated that the water level is 1,369.58 ft. in Tarbela while
water inflow is 10,500 cusecs and outflow is 139,700 cusecs. Water level in
Mangla is 1,142.65 ft., inflow is 26,200 cusecs and outflow is 10,000 cusecs
while the water level in Chenab river is rising and it is flowing with
24,400 cusecs, he concluded.
