Open Position:
Title:			Union Education Officer
Location:		CUPE 2440
Classification:		Band 3
Length of Contract:	21 hours per week
Starting Date:		As soon as possible
Competition Closing Date:	January 10, 2000

Summary:
CUPE Local 2440 has an international membership, with the majority of
members being located in overseas offices.  This Local is seeking to
strengthen global participation.  Key areas of involvement will include:
membership communication and participation; education; building leadership
skills;  building working committees; and representing the membership's
concerns.  The incumbent will be responsible to the Union Council Executive
of Local 2440.

Major Responsibilities:
1)  To collaborate with Union Council Executive in:
	a) the development of global membership communication strategy
	b) increasing membership participation and leadership in union matters
	c) the development of Local 2440 annual plan and budget

2)  To work with union executive and labour management committee on
assessing and refining:
	a) global compensation policy
	b) Cooperant Programming Assistant positions
	c) Salary Classification system review
	d) other policy issues of union concern as they arise

3)  To work with union council executive on planning and facilitating
Annual General Assembly

4)  To provide guidance and assistance to union committees regarding
membership, education and grievances as per the Collective Agreement

5)  To carry out general office tasks, including bookkeeping, filing and
reviewing incoming mail as required

Qualifications
*  knowledge of CUSO, development issues, social unionism and union
principles in general
*  commitment to people's/members' participation and to democratic ways of
working
*  active in local union work
*  ability to work independently, but within a collective framework
*  experience with conflict resolution and team building
*  good interpersonal and communication skills
*  basic bookkeeping experience
