[OPIRG-EVENTS] Peace petition given to MPs, Sep 25 3:30pm (today)

Cross Canada Caravan of Peace petitions has arrived in Ottawa

The "Cross Canada Peace Project" left Vancouver about a week ago and has
crossed much of Canada collecting signatures on a petition to seek "a
non-violent resolution to the crisis facing our world" and to urge the
Canadian government to "NOT support the use of military force, nor any
action that will result in harm to innocent people."

They will deliver their petition to Parliament today! The NDP caucus has
agreed to meet the peace petitioners at the peace tower to accept their
petition at 3:30 pm. TODAY (Tuesday, Sept. 25)

If you can, please gather *before* 3:30 p.m. on Parliament Hill, today.
The peace petitioners have asked for help to carry their 300 metre long
petition. If you want to help carry this huge thing, probably best to meet
there about 3 pm.

Because of the weather today in Ottawa -- rainy -- the peace petitioners
will be meeting (tentatively) at the:

McNabb Community Centre
140 Percy
(just north of Gladstone, just east of Bronson)

That's TODAY! Tuesday Sept 25
between 1 and 2 pm

They need some help: Please (call 1-604-781-3969 to confirm) meet them
there, sign the petition and help them cover this immense petition with a
piece of clear plastic!

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can help at the community centre, please call the
petitioners first to confirm this plan. Don't call me (Richard Sanders) at
the COAT office. Call Rupert, he's from Vancouver and is here in Ottawa,
his cell phone is 1-604-781-3969.

Please note: This petition is NOT the same as the "Global Appeal for 'No
more violence!'" that the Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade has initiated.
Their petition is on paper, ours is an electronic appeal. Our appeal now
has over 10,000 verified people with seperate email addresses who have
signed on from 105 countries. About 4000 canadians have signed our appeal.
If you haven't signed our appeal yet, see the end of this email for the
URL address.

For more information about the peace petition that will be presented on the
Hill today at 3;30 pm today, call Rupert at 1-604-781-3969.

Thanks
Richard Sanders
