[OPIRG-EVENTS] Public Consultation on the City's Environmental Strategy

[passed along from an email announcement from councillor Elizabeth Arnold]

The City is conducting public consultation on the Draft Environmental
Strategy that was released on April 10, 2003.
Ottawa's Environmental Strategy is a growth management plan that focuses on
the responsible management of all aspects of the City's environment. It will
set the direction and establish a comprehensive approach to create sound
environmental management in City practices and policies.
The Environmental Strategy describes the preservation of the natural
habitats and network of greenspace that we all enjoy. This is the growth
management document that focuses on the guiding principle of A Green and
Environmentally Sensitive City. This strategy will influence walking and
cycling policies as well as address noise, air, water and light pollution
issues.

There will be 8 public meetings throughout the months of May and June. The
public consultation meeting scheduled for a downtown location will take
place:

Thursday, May 22, 2003
Ottawa City Hall
Colonel By Room
7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Your input will be incorporated into the final draft of the Environmental
Strategy. For more information on the Environmental Strategy, and on the
public consultation meetings scheduled in other areas of the City, please
see the Ottawa 20/20 website at www.ottawa2020.com or contact:

Cynthia Levesque
Program Manager, Environmental management

I encourage you to participate in the public consultation on the
Environmental Strategy. Thank you.

Elisabeth Arnold
