Always learning: there is a project here in Crete (Greece) called EURIPACS,
which will use the existing network (which is a part of Internet, albeit a
small one) to transfer medical images from one hospital to another. This is
just testing for now, but in the future all the hospitals in Crete (and then
probably in Greece...i have to see that tho) will be interconnected; due to
high cost and constant unavailability of links by the PTT, they'll use the
backbone already created by FORTHnet (where i work) and the other major
network provider in Greece. So the Internet (capital I) may be used after
all for "critical missions".
