On Mothers' Day 1997,
the Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade (COAT)
set up a display of Iraqi children's paintings
inside the National Capital Air Show.

COAT has produced a 30 minute, VIDEO documentary called:

"MOTHERS' DAY AT THE WAR SHOW"

narrated by Marion Dewar
(former Mayor of Ottawa and chair of Oxfam Canada)

"Air shows" are at the forefront of a cultural epidemic in which
militarism, violence and war are glorified as entertainment.

In a culture filled with violent video games, films, TV programs, action
heroes and war toys, "air shows" are the public events which most
blatantly exemplify a socialization process which desensitizes children
to the horrors of war. Where else are the world's deadliest war
machines and weapons of mass destruction flaunted as if they were a
legitimate source of good, clean, wholesome, family fun? Each year in
North America alone, 27 million people fall victim to cultural
programming at these insidious, mass spectacles.

There's probably one coming to a sky near you!

This documentary juxtaposes numerous contradictory images and
interviews:

* war planes performing aerial stunts at the National Capital Air Show,
* Pentagon footage of these same kinds of war planes bombing Iraq,
* Iraqi children's paintings depicting the war planes in action,
* images of destruction wreaked upon Iraq's civilian infrastructure,
* interviews with:
cadets, air show spectators, peace activists and Iraqi war victims,
* former U.S. Attorney General, Ramsey Clark's journey to Iraq, in 1991.
