Three of the prisoners of conscience who were jailed for six months, as a
result of a peaceful protest at the School of the Americas, have recently
been released and will be in Ottawa on Nov. 29.

School of the Americas = School of Assassins
--------------------------------------------

The US Army School of the Americas (Fort Benning, Georgia) has trained
60,000 Latin American soldiers in combat skills, commando tactics,
military intelligence and torture techniques. Hundreds of thousands of
Latin Americans have been tortured, raped, assassinated, "disappeared,"
massacred and forced into exile by graduates of the "School of
Assassins." SOA graduates target educators, union organizers, religious
workers, student leaders, the poor and those who work for the rights of
the poor.

On November 22, 2,000 people, including actor Martin Sheen, were taken
into custody during a demonstration at the SOA.

On November 16, 1997, the eighth anniversary of the murder by SOA
graduates of six Jesuit professors and two women in El Salvador, 601
protesters entered Fort Benning in a solemn funeral procession. They
carried crosses bearing the names of victims of massacres and eight
symbolic coffins filled with petitions from thousands upon thousands of
North and South American citizens. All 601 were arrested. Twenty-five
of the marchers, targeted as "repeat offenders," received sentences of
six months in prison and $3,000 fines.

Three of these prisoners of conscience, who have finished serving their
six month sentence, will visit Ottawa and participate in:
